Happy New Year!

Now, would it be appropriate to end 2006 with The Impossible Dream? Pump up the volume. Shut out everything else. And treat yourself to this one. Again.

PS: Do click twice if you don't find the video streaming on your first click. On that arrow you see there...

Brrr... Merrrrry Chrrrrristmas

That's our office decked up for Christmas.

All the decorations we'd planned aren't done yet. But we thought we'd 'show-off' the snow effect. Brrrr.

Next Week We’ll Have A Winner

One week we didn’t have the meeting and the next, that’s this week, we didn’t see the swords roll, as there were no submissions. Guess the year-end vacation mood has descended on us even before the vacation. But then do we have a vacation coming? The official calendar only records a day off. Never mind. It was just one of those things. And we’ve left it behind us.

If you’ve seen the movie Hot Shots, you’ll remember Rowan Atkinson (he who’s notorious as Mr. Bean) tell his wife how he couldn’t get out of prison because he had his shoe laces tied together!

The point here? None at all. Or is there one?

My! What Big Teeth...

Sampath took the sword for design and Aruna took the sword for copy. Besides, we had the TEASE to decide on too. There was a suggestion that the next TEASE be something to do with things. Something you can hold. Something you can mould... Ah. There's a thought.

Perhaps, there's something else we need to give serious thought to. Perhaps it's time to ask ourselves if we are getting our proportions right.

"Proportions can make or break a design. Choose the right proportions and the piece will attract the eye, hold its interest and connect with the viewer..." So goes a broken link when you put in the words 'design proportions' in Google search. But broken or not, those few lines say a lot we could take a cue from.

Sans proportion, design is just so. Imagine yourself with a disproportionate mouth or ear or palm, one bigger than the other. Why even Little Red Riding Hood knew about proportions.

That's just a thought. But perhaps it shouldn't remain just that.

TEASE - V

Ugh. TEASE IV had petered out, though there were entries from Rags and Joseph. But then none did justice to the brief, none were 'international'. Perhaps this term is rather relative. Nevertheless, TEASE V has thrown up a winner - Chella. And you'll see why. We had Ranjit Mokashi as judge, who even went on to discuss each of the three designs that were submitted. Thank you Ranjit.

And way to go Chella. Since you've clothed Mo in Christmas garb here, will you be doing another one for Pongal, next month? That would be wicked.

Apple 1984: Had The Committee Decided...

Wear your headphones. Watch. Listen. This is the famous commercial that launched the Apple Macintosh in 1984. It was influenced by the book 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell. The despotic future and the Big Brother figure both stem from this novel. The 60-seconder created by Chiat/Day was directed by Ridley Scott the maker of the blockbuster 'Gladiator'.

The point here?

This ground breaking commercial, was almost discarded after it was made, believe it or not! Apparently, the Apple board of directors was dismayed by the ad and instructed management not to show it. But despite the board's dislike of the film Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers, watched it and offered to pay for the spot personally if the board refused to air it.

You might also want to check out 'The Committee Has Decided', below. (A few scrolls down).

8 Types of Bad Creative Critics

Ah! You seem to know them all. Which one ticks you the most? Which one makes you cry? Which one makes you wish you were just a weenie slug or amoeba or maybe a bar tender?

No. No. No. You’re getting it all wrong. This isn’t meant to aggravate you. What? You feel the bile rising? Now, now, we all do hyperventilate at times. It must be the sign of the times.

What! You think not?
