Apple 1984: Had The Committee Decided...

Wear your headphones. Watch. Listen. This is the famous commercial that launched the Apple Macintosh in 1984. It was influenced by the book 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell. The despotic future and the Big Brother figure both stem from this novel. The 60-seconder created by Chiat/Day was directed by Ridley Scott the maker of the blockbuster 'Gladiator'.

The point here?

This ground breaking commercial, was almost discarded after it was made, believe it or not! Apparently, the Apple board of directors was dismayed by the ad and instructed management not to show it. But despite the board's dislike of the film Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers, watched it and offered to pay for the spot personally if the board refused to air it.

You might also want to check out 'The Committee Has Decided', below. (A few scrolls down).
